Quick Notes runs entirely in your browser. It does not collect, transmit, store on remote servers, or share any personal data. Your notes, highlights and settings stay on your device.

What we process

The extension processes the following data, all stored locally in your browser:

Everything lives in chrome.storage.local (notes, highlights) and chrome.storage.sync (settings) — isolated to your browser profile. If you sign your browser into a profile sync service (Chrome Sync, Edge Sync, Firefox Sync), your browser may replicate the storage.sync portion across your own devices; that synchronization is handled by your browser vendor under their privacy policy, not ours.

Speech features

Text-to-speech (TTS) uses your browser's built-in SpeechSynthesis API. Speech-to-text uses the browser's SpeechRecognition API. Both APIs may, depending on browser and platform, send audio to your operating system or your browser vendor's speech service for processing. Quick Notes never receives that audio and has no control over what those services do with it; please consult your browser/OS privacy settings if this concerns you. The transcribed text is written only to the note you are editing.

New Tab page

The New Tab page is off by default. If you enable it in Settings, your new tabs are replaced by a local page showing a clock, your recent notes, and (optionally) your most-visited sites read via the browser's topSites API. Nothing on that page is transmitted off your device.

Web highlights

When you highlight text on any web page, Quick Notes stores the selected text plus short context snippets so the highlight can be re-anchored after the page re-renders. The page URL is stored as the lookup key. Nothing about the page contents, your interactions, or the highlight itself is sent to any server.

Import / Export

You can export all your notes, highlights, tags and settings as a JSON file at any time from Settings → Data → Export backup. The export happens fully on-device — the file is written to your Downloads folder. Importing reads the file you select; nothing is uploaded.

Third parties

The extension bundles no third-party SDK, tracker, analytics, or advertising library. It loads no remote scripts.

Data retention and deletion

Children

Quick Notes is a productivity tool. It is not directed at children under 13.

We may update this policy. Any changes will be reflected in the version published with each new release of the extension.
